Dated but Awesome, Unusual, and Fun Game
I bought this game because I am a fan of zombie books/movies/TV shows, and it sounded kind of fun and it was cheap. When it arrived I popped it into the Xbox and before I knew what happened, it was two in the morning. First the cons: The graphics are nothing to rave about, as it is an older game, so if you are one of those types that can't stand that sort of thing, this game is not for you. Most of the in-game dialogue occurs in small text boxes, which some may find hard to read. And some of the boss battles got me very VERY frustrated, as I died often and you can only save in certain locations, so do not be surprised to have to re-play some part a bajillion times. But, to me, intriguing story line -- I have not finished the game yet, so I do not know if it gets weird at the end like some other games I played -- the HUGE assortment of items you can fight with, and the fact that you have to finish all the missions within set time limits -- something that some may find a con rather than a pro -- make this game an exciting addition to my collection that I will recommend to anybody who enjoys zombies, out-of-the-ordinary fighting styles, and interesting plot.

love this game
just got an xbox 360 and this was my second game, my first game was crackdown. This game is just 100% entertainment, The the whole premise of being trapped in a mall with zombies is a idea that has been done in movies but not in a game. You have total freedom going anywhere and everywhere in the mall with dozens of different stores that have items you can use as weapons, the game doesn't take itself seriously when it comes to this idea as you can so pretty funny stuff to zombies and gameplay feels arcady in that sense as you rack up points for taking pictures and killing zombies at the same time. Its a fun game regardless if you like zombies or not but its a challenge as well, the start of the game your character is pretty weak and in general slow but ask anyone who has played this game and they'll tell you dying is part of the game, in the beginning anyway. When you start the game focus on leveling up you character by taking pictures of zombies attacking, survivors and anything that looks important and you'll get a lot of PP which levels up Frank. Then you can focus on beating the game in one playthrough. good luck and enjoy

Good game but with important flaws.
First of all, the game itself was and is amazing. What amazed me especially is the detail of the game. Frank West (The game's protagonist) is stuck in a mall infested with zombies. Let me just say, the mall is HUGE. You can walk into any of the stores inside the mall, and almost everything is usuable. It's amazing. You can use cash registers, toys, gumball machines, dishes, chairs, potted plants, zombie hands, and so much more, as weapons. Cool huh? But there's a few flaws that are critical to the game's entertainment.Saving the game is a nuisance in Dead Rising. Players are required to go back to the few save points, and trust me, there's FEW. Most of the time, Frank West WILL die before you save your game; unless you're right next to safe room. The small text is another con as well. Capcom, instead of converting the conversations into audio, has it in text. Frank West's walkie talkie rings about every 5 minutes for a 'scoop' and players are forced to squint their eyes to see the text that appears while dealing with the multitude of zombies. Capcom claims this game is supposed to be for "HDTV"s BUT, not everyone has HDTV's.Overall, good game, just the flaws that make me place Dead Rising's rating as 'OK'.

Great zombie game with a lot of options
This is a great zombie game in a third person view reminiscent of the original Dawn of the Dead movie. You get a lot of cool ways to kill zombie with a great story to boot. I would not call this a Dawn of the Dead ripoff like a lot of others have said. I would say it was inspired by it. The game play is great and enjoyable and the slow moving zombies make your different ways of killing them the so funny. You can replay the story and have some options to change the story to receive different endings. I would only recommend this to zombie lovers and those who don't mind gore. There are a few guns in the game but this is not a first person shooter and should not be played that way. You will run out of bullets quickly and have to find fun and inventive ways to kill the hordes of the undead. If you can accept and deal with it then buy this game.

I paid 10 bucks for it, its not even worth that.
So whats good about this game? Absolutely nothing. I bought this game because I am a zombie game fan, but this game is just plain corny and dumb. I thought 10 bucks for the game was a good deal. Now I see why it goes for 10 bucks. Because it sucks....For one, its EXTREMELY hard to save the game. At the beginning of the game, there is one save point that you have to go to. Within the first 5 minutes, you are up against a gun battle with some guy who is extremely hard to kill, jumping all over the place, and throwing bombs at you, all while you are trying to get the aiming set up to shoot the guy...by then you are dead from a bomb.....then you lose all progress and have to start from scratch all over again. The plot is rediculous, the animation sucks, the characters suck......there is nothing good about this game. Yeah picking up random things to hit at zombies, thats about the most fun you will have in this game. After dieing about 5 times in a row, after having to go through the process of starting from scratch, since its almost impossible to save....I gave up.....what a waste of 10 bucks. Sad excuse for a zombie game.
